Located in the heart of the Finger Lakes Wine Country, Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard is just one hour south of the Canadian border in the eastern part of the U.S., on Seneca Lake’s west bank. Our New York state winery, which produces approximately 12,000 cases each year, was designed in 1982 by an award winning team of Cornell architects. Enclosed within the shell of a seventy-year-old scissor-trussed barn, it accommodates a full wine production area and tasting facility. Its unique white cathedral-like interior counterpoints the bare wooden walls and sleek Italian stainless steel tanks.
Our winemaking processes pay homage to the ancient winemaking tradition and winemaking history of Hermann's ancestry while incorporating the best of modern practices. Winemaker Fred Merwarth continues to blend these traditional and modern practices to maximize the potential of our New York vineyards. We craft wines in very small lots to focus on subtle differences between vineyard site blocks within vineyards and even clones within varieties. Although small lot production is labor intensive, it allows us to have more control over the final product. Hermann J Wiemer wine is sure to exceed your highest expectations.
We have an intimate retail wine shop inside the barn with all our current vintages available for purchase. We offer wine tastings in the retail wine shop and the winery. Our experienced retail staff is on hand to guide you through the wine list and answer any questions about our facilities and processes.
